Rococo Chinese House in Potsdam Germany

The Rococo Chinese pavillion in Sanssouci Park, Potsdam, Germany,
embraces chinoiserie fashion. Life-sized, golden figures can be
found outside. There are fairytale-like Chinese musicians and tea-
drinking men and women with exotic character that blend well with
the columns in the shape of golden palm trees.

The walls of the interior are adorned with gilded consoles on which
porcelain objects are displayed. The large ceiling painting presents
an exuberant Chinese social gathering depicted in an illusional
architectural setting.

Cha Kwo Ling, the shanty town near Yau Tong in East Kowloon, is one of the last remaining urban
villages in Hong Kong. It was once home to about 10,000 villagers in its heyday, when granite

part of Kowloon and the New Territories were leased to Britain in 1899.

with a high density housing development. In 2021, plans were announced to erect 6
residential towers at the site and demolishing the existing village in 2 years’ time.
