Deserted 160-Year-old Study Hall

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted study hall.

The 2-storey building was established in 1862 by the fifth generation of Tang clan and
later used as a study hall for the education of the village children. It was also the place
where Poon Choi feasts for villagers were held during Chinese festivals. In 1920 to
1930, it was renamed a school. It became vacant in 1941 when a public school was opened.
In the 1970s, it was turned into a kindergarten which was then closed in the 1980s.
It has been deserted since then.

There are exquisitely carved wooden figurines on the eaves on the first floor. Furniture
and items are found scattered throughout the building.

Abandoned Cars from 1960s

An avid urban explorer discovers abandoned cars in New Territories.

There are 3 Mercedes Benz from the 1960s abandoned at the roadside. A common problem in Hong Kong.
Ombudsman, Winnie Chiu Wai-yin, published her report in September on the subject of vehicles
abandoned on government land. She called on authorities to introduce tougher regulations
against those who dump unwanted vehicles on roadsides or in public parking spaces.

She found that only 8 cases were prosecuted in the past 2 decades. The government watchdog
explained that the problem persisted because authorities had only focused on the removal
of the abandoned vehicles instead of holding the owners accountable.
