Lychee giant stink bug (Tessaratoma papillosa) is a beautiful insect growing to 24 mm.
Nymphs are especially colourful. It is considered a pest by farmers as it feeds on lychee and
longan trees by sucking the saps from its flowers, young fruits, and twigs.

When threatened, their defense mechanism is a foul-smelling, long-lasting excretion. Locals
believe it is poisonous and can cause blindness when rubbing eyes after touching it.

Last throes of Deserted Village

where they were moved to.

However, in 2015, the Town Planning Board broke the promise and rezoned the area from
a green belt to a residential zone, planning to develop private residences, causing the 200
villagers to face the problem of forced eviction again in 2022. The houses were deserted since.

Auto Soma by Harrison Pearce

Auto Soma, London-based artist Harrison Pearce's first solo exhibition in Hong Kong at
Mou Projects gallery, features a kinetic installation and a selection of recent paintings,
spotlighting the artist's latest exploration and contemplation on the intertwined relationship
between machinery and humanity in the present reality of technological entanglement.

The show's eponymous centerpiece is a set of 4 sculptural figures mounted on a wall whose
appearance lingers between an industrial engine, a helmet armor, and an alien totem.
Animated by a compressor that provides pressurized air as power, the outer shells of the
sculptural assembly open and close, revealing the embedded speakers hidden inside.

Presenting what is almost an unpleasant vision that seems associated with a dystopian
sci-fi future, but is actually a mirror image of what is happening today, the show prompts
viewers to take a closer look at their own lives to reassess their perspective of reality.

Yulia Yarkova, art critic extraordinaire and founder of GalleriesGal.com, was there to review
the show at 202 The Factory, 1 Yip Fat Street, Aberdeen. Show opens 6 May - 10 June 2023.
