Deserted Historic Church from 1950s

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted church.

In 1952, a priest and 4 nuns went to a village in the hills to build a church, a medical practice
and a school. In the 1970s and 1980s, villagers and religious groups started to leave the village.
It was deserted since 1999 and listed as a Grade II historic building in 2016. The government
has not revitalised and preserved the church after taking over the land.
Furniture and fixture are mostly cleared.

Exploring Deserted Villa in the Hills

The 2-storey villa in the hills belonged to a distinguished gentleman who was a lawyer,
legislator and founder of a private university in Hong Kong. Apparently, it has been deserted
since 2006. Furniture and personal items are scattered throughout the building.

Exploring Deserted Gold Dealer Shop from 1940s

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted gold dealer shop.

The 3-storey building was completed in 1945. The nett area ranges from 357 to 400 sq ft.
Apparently, it has been deserted since 2020. Furniture and fixture, including 5 safes,
plus a large number of personal items, such luggage, clothing, lingerie and plush
toys, are scattered throughout the building.

Exploring Deserted Tong Lau from the 1950's

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted Tong Lau (Chinese Tenement).

The 4-storey building was completed in 1955. There is 2 blocks with 8 residential units.
The nett area ranges from 737 to 798 sq ft. Apparently, it has been deserted since 1996.
Furniture and a large number of personal items, such as a pipa and an erhu (Chinese musical
instruments), lingerie, plush toys and photos, are scattered throughout the building.

Exploring Deserted Senior Home

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted senior home.

The building is 3 storeys high. Word from the neighbourhood is that it was intended to be a senior
home but something went wrong. Part of the building was taken over by an illegal occupier who
appears to have a strong religious fervour. Personal belongings and furniture are
scattered and graffiti is on many walls. This house has been deserted for a while.

Exploring Deserted Village Mansion

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted village mansion.

The 2-storey building is located amongst fields. Apparently, it has been deserted since 1974.
Items found are from the 1970s, including many bamboo baskets, an oil lamp, fire crackers,
blankets and traditional Chinese baby sling carriers, etc. A bamboo baby bed hangs from the
ceiling. Furniture and personal items are scattered throughout the house.

Preservation of Historic Tong Lau

An avid urban explorer ventures into a historic Tong Lau (Chinese tenement building)
which is being prevserved.

The 4-storey building with 2 units on each floor was completed in 1951. It was the
residence of the founder of a prominent local newspaper that started in 1925 and stopped
publication in 1995.

Designed by famous Portuguese architect A H Basto, the building also housed a dormitory
for some of the newspaper's employees.

The area had been designated by the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) for re-development,
but this building was saved from being redeveloped after concern groups opposed and fought
many years for its preservation. It was rated a Grade II historic building in 2019.

The apartment complex is 3 storeys high with 6 blocks, 4 of which are modern and
some have interior spiral staircase and fireplace. 2 older blocks has single-storey
units. It is a stone throw away from the nearest MTR station. They have been deserted
for a while. Furniture and personal items have been mostly cleared.

Deserted Pre-war Villa

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted villa.

The 2-storey villa was built on a compound of 7.3 hectares before the war by a famous rice merchant.
There is a large outdoor swimming pool, a fountain and expansive garden. The gorgeous red
window grilles all around the house give it a distinct look. Apparently, it has been
deserted since 1996. Furniture and personal items are largely intact.

Exploring Deserted Elegant Hakka Mansion

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted Hakka
mansion.

Built in 1932, the elegant traditional Hakka mansion, has been long deserted, hidden behind bushes.
It is typical of the Hakka 'two-halls two-horizontal' residential building. It is the only single
residential building in Hong Kong listed as a Grade I historical building. It has been
deserted for decades. Most of the furnitures are gone.

Deserted Village School from 1940s

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted village school.

The school was established in 1947 and moved to this campus in 1956. It was closed in 2005
due to insufficient students. It was subsequently used by a kungfu (martial art) school.
Lots of materials for lion dance are found inside.

Dangerous Dinner by Sacha in Deserted Century-old Mansion

Sacha Yasumoto, an interior architectural and spatial designer, holistic lifestylist and urban
explorer, organised a wildly successful “Dangerous Dinner” at a deserted mansion built in 1902
somewhere in the New Territories on 14 January 2023. To keep the location secret, the 30 diners
were blindfolded for the last half-hour of their shuttle bus journey.

The century-old colonial building in a empty raw shell of concrete was transformed into a dazzling
setup styled by Heaven Scent Events with lavish velvet drapery, profuse blood-red roses and crystal
candelabras with matching candles. An amazing sumptuous 5-course champagne dinner was prepared
by Cordon Bleu chef of Mayu's Kitchen with no electricity nor running water. Live music
was curated by Wong Ki-chung, a violinist from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts,
as part of a string trio, throughout the event.

Jewellery Box @ Deserted Village House

Peach Blossom Blooming at Tsz Shan Monastery

Peach blossoms are blooming at Tsz Shan Monastery, a large Buddhist temple located in Tung Tsz,
Tai Po District. It consists of grand Tang-style buildings nestled against the quiet environment
of the Pat Sin Range overlooking the Plover Cove Reservoir. It covers an area of about
500,000 square feet. It is constructed by the Li Ka-shing Foundation for more than ten years.
As of 2019, Mr Li Ka-shing contributed over HK$3 billion to cover development costs and operating expenses.

The core of Tsz Shan Temple include:

A 76-metre-high (equivalent to about 25 storeys) outdoor bronze and alloy Ruyilun Guanyin statue in
white, the second tallest in the world. The statue holds a water vase in her left hand and a cintamani
gem in her right hand.

An 18-metre-high Main Buddha Hall covers an area of about 1,027 square metres: it enshrines the Buddha
Shakyamuni, the Medicine Buddha and the Amitabha, with a golden lotus canopy on top of the Buddha.

A Guanyin Hall covering an area of about 333 square metres.

It was officially opened to the public in April 2015.

Exploring Deserted Chic Cafe

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted cafe.

The building was completed in 1958 and one of the units was converted into a chic Taiwanese-
style cafe specialising in fruit teas. It was first closed due to COVID and subsequently
because the building was sold. Furniture and items, including a steam foaming machine
was left behind. There is a Japanese style stone lamp.One of the glass walls was shattered.

Deserted Mall in City-Centre

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted shopping mall in city-centre, just a few minutes
from the newest MTR station.

The 14-storey building was completed in 1966. The shopping mall occupied the first 4 floors with
a nett area of 10,000 sq ft. A restaurant, which was famous among dim-sum customers in the 1970s,
was located here. Since the restaurant closed in 1992, only a mahjong club, a sauna, and a
private kitchen have briefly opened there. The mall has been deserted since 2016.

Deserted Century-old Quarters in Upscale District

An avid urban explorer ventures into deserted quarters in the most upscale district in Hong Kong.

Built in 1896, the building perches on the hill and is now hidden in the bushes.
Little information is available on the building but from the layout and design, it is most
likely a government quarters for foreign workers. There is a fireplace in each of the rooms.
The roof has collapsed and only open space remain where windows were. Roots and
vines have intertwined with the structure.

The 7-storey building was completed in 1959. There is 1 blocks with 14 residential units. The
saleable area of ranges from 474 to 581 sq ft. It has been deserted for a while. Furniture

Exploring Deserted Villa from 1920s

The villa was built in 1924. First used as a nurses quarters for a hospital in the area. It is 2-storeys
high with an eclectic layout and an outdoor swimming pool. Personal belongings and furniture
are scattered throughout the house. It has been deserted since 2021 after the owner
passed away. The villa was rated a Grade III historic building in 2010.

Exploring Deserted Luxury Seaview Houses

An avid urban explorer ventures into a block of deserted luxury houses.

The block has 13 units of 3-storey apartment with gorgeous view of the waterfront.
It received its occupation permit in 2013, yet it appears to be unfinished. The walls, floors and
stairs are still in raw concrete. A fully-furnished model house and a clubhouse are included.
